Personal Touch; a little bit about us

Africa is quite simply the most extra ordinary, beautiful and luminous place on earth!
Of all tools that can be used to reduce poverty, responsible tourism has perhaps the greatest potential. It is relatively cheap to develop, it provides jobs, it employs natural recourses and its reach into rural areas means it can have a direct impact on many lives. It also fosters goodwill and understanding.

The Personal Touch Ltd, is an independent Spa Operator and Consultancy company based in Zambia. Due to the high demand in spa operations throughout Africa and in specific the more remote areas of this magnificent continent, the Personal Touch saw an opportunity to support the small to medium size companies to successfully establish profitable and professional operated spa facilities with emphasis on a truly African experience.

We understand the often limited resources in these remote areas, and understand the sometimes limited financial and logistical resources of our clients.

A brief history about the Personal Touch

The Personal Touch was incorporated to make the most of Africa's rich natural heritage and in particular develop products and packages that will satisfy the needs of current key players in the tourist industry, as well as the increasing “personal attention” expectations from visitors to Africa. We successfully service a variety of tourist establishments in prime safari destinations of Zambia and along the stunning Lake Malawi.

Profile

The Personal Touch in Zambia won the Best Entrepreneur during the Zambia Tourism Award elections. This award is presented to a business owner within the Zambia tourism industry who demonstrated their innovative approach to business, their provision of an excellent Zambian experience to the visitor, their contribution to the local population through opportunity generation and training and their positive approach to the environment.
The Personal Touch offers an pioneering approach to enhancing the experience of tourists within rural areas of Africa, where guests are offered a truly African Spa experience. Africa has an abundance of therapeutic plant life and the Personal Touch, this ancient, traditional therapeutic heritage is embraced. In celebration of the African culture, we constantly create and up-dates unique signature treatments incorporating the wonderful ingredients that the African continent has on offer.
Not only are most of the used ingredients of indigenous produce (to think of Baobab, Tamarind and Sausage Tree), but our staff consists of local therapists well known with the area in and around our African Spa's. This is their Africa!

Operating a Spa in the bush requires additional skills and different attitudes, not found in just about every therapist. To follow the company policy of providing income and opportunity for the local community, The Personal Touch only works with local therapists. An intensive course is offered to a selected group of women interested in this line of industry and training is done to international standards. A 2 year basic course has been taken by all therapists on duty in our African Spa's. After graduation, they were offered a full-time position within the company. Training continues throughout their employment by new courses, sufficient time for practical training and use of all Spa equipment and Personal Touch keeps investing in training courses for future employees.
The extensive training offered locally is being expanded throughout Africa, to be able to offer more local women the chance of becoming active within the industry. Currently Zambia does not offer any education for this line of profession and the Personal Touch, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Education, wishes to set up guidelines for this part of the wellness industry. However we realize this does not happen overnight and this needs careful attention.
